Introduction
Welcome to the official web site of Kadov village. The village is situated approx. 8 km
(as the crow flies) southwest of Blatná, on the road linking towns Lnáře and Strakonice.
When you visit the countryside around Kadov, its scenic natural beauty surprises you.
It is hilly, varied and naturally connected with Šumava Mountains.
It is sought after by tourists.
This part of the country is strewn with granite boulders, which prevented the fields and meadows
uniting into larger units as happened in other parts of the Czech Republic. Thanks to this “difficult”
terrain a lot of groves, small hills and country roads was preserved and give the country its distinctive
scenery. Many interesting natural spots remained untouched and the countryside is suitable for active
leisure activities. We can find many species of insects, birds and mammals and also plants and
phytocoenoses (herbal communities). Some parts are therefore protected in natural reserves.
To Kadov village are associated other settlements: Lnářský Málkov, Mračov, Pole a Vrbno, which
are connected by tourist paths. They have often also common history. The beautiful countryside
surrounds the whole area.
The Kadov village is a member of Union of Municipalities of Blatná Region (Svazek obcí Blatenska).
Momentous stones
The surroundings of Kadov village are very rich in numerous granite stones, which are very
interesting for visitors. One of the most popular stones is Kadov Rocking Stone (Kadovský viklan).
Nature trail around Kadov Rocking Stone
Kadov Rocking Stone
The rocking stone is situated in a small grove opposite to local authority office (Obecní úřad) in Kadov.
It is a big granite boulder, which rests with its centre of gravity on the pointed rock. It used to
be easy to make it to rock. Its origin is explained by slow erosion of rock. Some archaeologists suggest
that it used to be the place of sacrifice to old pagan gods. Its height is 1,5 m, its weight is
around 30 tons and circumference is 11 m.
At the end of 19.th century was the stone with the use of violence thrown down and it remained
on the ground until the year 1983. In this year it was re-erected and put into its original
position by the team of enthusiastic volunteers led by Ing. Pavel Pavel. It remained on its
place only 4 years and then it was thrown down again. In the year 1987 it was put back again
and several wedges were installed to prevent its rocking and possible injuries caused by its fall.
It was designated a protected natural product.
Big pots in granite stones
Another interesting and popular natural phenomenon in granite is a big granite stone with several
basin-like depressions, which can be found on the hill Vysoký situated between Kadov and Lnářský Málkov
east of the road. It is said that on this stone was resting tired st.Vojtěch after his sermon about
Jesus Christ doctrine.
Other stones known for their basin-like depressions can be found on the hill Hora situated near
Kadov in the direction to Vrbno south from the road. Hora is the highest geodetic point and it
used to have nice view of the country but now tall trees overgrow it.
Devil´s Bangles
Devil´s bangles can be found near the forest road to Slatina. About 500 m walk from Kadov,
there is nature trail stop n.11, it shows Small Devil´s Bangle. It consists of stones which
are piled up to several metres.
Big Devil´s Bangle is near the nature trail stop n.12 on the left of the forest road.
It stands on the highest point of the small hill, from where there was a nice view of the
country towards the Šumava Mountains. The view is now partly blocked out by tall trees.
Many legends exist about Bangles
1. Many years ago there was a young teacher at Kadov School. He dutifully taught and children
liked listening to him. He was telling a thrilling story once, when a boy from the last row of
desks called out : “Devil!” Out of the blue, there was a black person with horns on his head behind
the window. He signalled with his finger to the teacher to come out. They were arguing about
something for a long time. Next day it became known, that they had bet on who would be faster.
The devil stated that he would bring an armful of stones from Brdy Mountains sooner than the
teacher would have finished his Lord´s Prayer with pupils. The Devil was sure about his victory a
gaining the soul of the teacher. He flew out for stones to the hills with a big bag. When he was
on his way back, he could hear that the prayer is nearing the end and so he hurried up. In the
hurry, he dropped one of stones and it bogged down into the ground so deep that he wasn´t able
to pull it out. He even imprinted his hoof into the stone but it didn´t move. This delayed
him and when he was approaching Kadov with his load of stones, he could hear children saying: “Amen.”.
He was so annoyed that he threw the stones to the ground and his bag a bit further away and
disappeared, because he learned that he had lost his bet.
Stone for sacrifices
Between the two Bangles in the forest west of the road, there is a big granite boulder,
which has several basin-like depressions in its surface. The stone is about 2 m high.
According to some archaeologists, pagans used it for sacrifices. Others believe that
depressions are the result of slow erosion of inhomogeneous stone.
Mračov Kiln
The kiln was repaired by Menhirostav society and it can be found to the north of bend of
the road before entering Mračov village in the direction from Vrbno.
Cycle ways
The country around Kadov is popular with people seeking active spending of their free
time either cycling or walking. In the Guide to Blatná country (Průvodce Blatenskem) you can
find cycleway going from Řečice through Vrbno, Kadov, Bezděkov and Pole with the length of 32,5 km.
Another cycle way, which is described in the guide published by Union of Municipalities
of Blatná Region (Svazek obcí Blatenska). It starts in Lnáře, then it goes to Klinovice,
Pole, Kadov and Lnářský Málkov.
There is also an educational nature trail, which starts near the microbiological station
at the Velký Pálenec pond, it continues through Vrbno, Kadov and it ends in Slatina.
On each stop of the trail, there are boards with brief information about historical and
natural places of interest.
Of course, if you want to make an interesting trip, you don´t have to follow marked

Sights with historical interest.
Parish church of st. Venceslas (Václav)
Already long time ago there was a parish church of st. Venceslas in Kadov, it constisted
of square presbytery and oblong nave. It was built of bricks a covered with Spanish tiles.
The space of the church was lit by several small and narrow windows and there were two
altars inside. On the organ loft, there was small choir organ. Around the church, there
was a small cemetery. On the wooden bell tower there were three small bells hanging.
Because the church was already old and in a bad state, John Fr. Kristian the count of
Sweert Spork, lord of Lnáře had the church pulled down and built a new one in a baroque
style with three cupolas and a tower. There was a commemorative file put into the cupola
on the 12.th of june1765 and according to that on the building worked: Kašpar Švankmajer – master
mason, Jiří Kaplan – master carpenter, Jan Šole – master smith. New church was solemnly
consecrated on the 29.th of September 1765. In the church, there are three altars.
The main altar is consecrated to st. Venceslas, side ones to Virgin Mary of Karlov
and st. John of Nepomuk. On the organ loft, there is an organ from the year 1786.
Noticeable are also the cross on the baptismal font and the statue of Virgin Mary of
Lurds. There still are tombstones of Alex Zabořský from Brloh, of his wife Kateřina
Zabořská from Jilmanice and the first of Kadov´s vicars M. Rybičky .The stones are
in the vestry embedded into the east wall of the vestry. The tombstone with portraits
of two small children of A. Zabořský was embedded into the wall next to the north
entry to the cemetery.
This cemetery stopped being used around the year 1850. There are three bells hanging
in the tower. Two of them originate from the year 1760 and the third was added in the
year 1840. A missionary cross was erected next to the main entrance in the year 1899.
The Vicarage
The vicarage was built in the northwest from the church behind the school building in the year 1758.
The oldest birth register originates from the year 1660 and a commemorative book was set
up in the year 1761.
The old fort
The old fort was originally residence of lower noble person (vladyka), if was built of
wood and surrounded with the fosse. The first vladyka was Racek from Žihobec, who became a
benefactor of the church in the year 1362. In the beginning of 20th century, it was rebuilt
and used as a granary. The northern wing was heightened and was used also as a granary.
There remained preserved two renaissance gables with alcoves in the west wing and three
big cellars. Around the year 1661 the brewery used to be here and in it a chief brewer
Martin Sosna brewed beer. There used to be a big garden belonging to the fort which was
famous for its rare species of flowers and trees. Ditches were planted with rare type of
lime trees, which leaves were similar to caps wore by priests (kvadrátky). They were
cut down in the year 1749.
The chapel with the tomb of the counts
There used to be nice alley with trees leading to the Chapel of Saint Cross Found.
The chapel was built in a simple gothic style; its ground plan is in the form of a cross.
The foundation stone was set down by count Václav Linker from Lucemvik, the landlord of
Lnáře on the 25th of April 1856. But wasn´t finished until the year 1863, in this year
it was also consecrated. There used to be foundation services several times a year.
Around the chapel were planted lime trees and also the cemetery was founded there.
This cemetery was in use since the year 1680. A mortuary was built here in the year 1887.
A metal cross was erected in the centre of the cemetery.
There is a memorial to soldiers killed in the World War.
The fort and yard in Lnářský Málkov
It was mentioned already in the year 1393. It was stone building with high gables
but unfortunately it wasn´t preserved until today.
The castle in Pole
The village of Pole is one of the oldest villages in Blatná region. There was reference
to it already in the year 1228.
The Polish Yard in Pole was founded by joining of four smaller farms.
The castle is a dominant feature of the village but today it is unfortunately very
run-down. There used to be a chapel in the castle in the 17th century and also a garden.
The fruit tree nursery was founded here in the year 1669 – it was the first such nursery
in the Lnáře estate.
There used to be also a brewery. They brew the beer only during winter season and it
was produced until the year 1859 and then was the brewery closed down. On the place,
where is now the pond Chmeličný, there used to be hop-field.
The small baroque chapel, which can be found near the road from Pole to Kadov was
consecrated in the 18th century.
In Pole there is also a memorial to the liberation by U.S. Army (end of WW II).
The watermill at the pond in Pole originate from 17th century.
